Test and simulation lab on wheels in Norway

In this article, our EUVECA regional coordinator from Norway shares some news with us!

Through the EUVECA project, we aim to strengthen collaboration between educational institutions and the healthcare sector to ensure that healthcare students and professionals receive relevant, high-quality training throughout their careers. A key strategy in this effort is the use of mobile simulation-based training, which brings hands-on learning directly to the workplace—regardless of geographic location.

In May 2025, we brought this approach to Nordliheimen in Western Norway, delivering higher education in the form of mobile simulation training. Inside a fully equipped trailer, healthcare professionals and students were able to practice real-life clinical scenarios in a safe and realistic setting. The initiative significantly improved access to advanced training, reduced the need for travel, and enhanced opportunities for local professional development.

Participants gave highly positive feedback, emphasizing the value of the experience in strengthening their clinical skills and confidence. The simulation training not only deepened students’ understanding of patient care but also empowered healthcare assistants to take on expanded responsibilities, helping to ease the workload of nursing staff and improve care delivery.

By decentralizing simulation training, EUVECA makes high-quality education more accessible—especially in rural areas—while supporting lifelong learning. The project contributes to building clinical competence, fostering professional confidence, and improving overall healthcare services.

Additionally, EUVECA promotes collaboration between municipalities, educational institutions, and healthcare providers, strengthening professional networks and encouraging knowledge sharing. The experience from Nordhordland illustrates how accessible, relevant training close to home can play a key role in recruitment, retention, and sustainable workforce development in local healthcare services.
