3rd EUVECA Expert Group Meeting marks progress towards project completion

3rd EUVECA Expert Group Meeting marks progress towards project completion

On 28 January 2026, EUVECA convened its 3rd Expert Group Meeting, bringing together project partners, pan-European organisations and invited experts to reflect on progress and discuss the next steps as the project enters its final phase. The meeting focused on the implementation of the Edu4Health platform, the results emerging from regional VET Excellence Hubs, and the long-term sustainability and governance of the European Platform for VET Excellence in Health Care.

Advancing the Edu4Health platform

A central part of the meeting was dedicated to updates on the Edu4Health platform, developed under EUVECA as a European collaborative space for healthcare educators and training providers. Participants were presented with the current status of the platform, including its integrated content and learning management systems, the growing catalogue of courses and learning resources, and its role in supporting collaboration, innovation and mobility across regions.

The platform responds to key challenges facing healthcare education in Europe, such as demographic change, digital transformation, chronic disease, climate challenges and the need for future-oriented skills. By offering non-commercial, peer-reviewed learning resources under Creative Commons licences, Edu4Health aims to strengthen quality, accessibility and cooperation across vocational education and training systems.

Learning activities and course development

Updates were also shared on the development of training materials and courses addressing major healthcare megatrends. These include learning activities on personalised care and prevention, ageing populations, digital health and information technologies, climate and sustainability, and the evolving role of healthcare consumers.

Interregional collaboration has been a guiding principle in course development, with partners jointly designing, testing and quality-assessing learning materials. The meeting highlighted how different formats — from simulation-based learning and interactive videos to podcasts and virtual reality scenarios — are being used to support diverse learning needs and contexts.

Regional implementation and testing

The meeting also reviewed progress in testing and implementation at regional level, with EUVECA establishing seven Regional VET Excellence Hubs across Europe. These hubs serve as focal points for cooperation between education providers, healthcare organisations and regional stakeholders.

Participants discussed the strategic and operational processes behind the hubs, including co-creation with stakeholders, alignment with regional priorities, and experimentation with new learning formats. Early experiences highlighted both promoting factors — such as strong partnerships and stakeholder engagement — and barriers, including time constraints, resource limitations and governance complexity.

Discussing sustainability and governance beyond the project

As EUVECA moves towards completion in 2026, a key focus of the meeting was the draft sustainability strategy for the Edu4Health platform. Based on a business model canvas approach, discussions explored governance structures, operational roles, potential revenue streams and partnership models to ensure the platform’s continuity beyond the project’s lifetime.

Short-, medium- and long-term scenarios were presented, outlining steps towards establishing a permanent secretariat, strengthening links with other European initiatives, and exploring future funding opportunities once the platform is fully established as a collaborative European community.

Looking ahead

The 3rd Expert Group Meeting provided an important opportunity to take stock of EUVECA’s progress and to gather expert input on priorities for the final project phase. Insights from the discussion will help inform the next steps towards consolidating the platform, strengthening regional implementation, and preparing for the EUVECA Final Conference in March 2026.

EUVECA will continue working with partners, experts and stakeholders to support excellence, innovation and cooperation in vocational education and training for health care across Europe.
